BBFC Seeks Judicial Review of "Manhunt 2" Ban Reversal

London - The British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) has applied for a judicial review of a recent appeal that successfully overturned its ban on the sale of Take-Two Interactive's (NASD: TTWO) violent "Manhunt 2" game in Britain, GamesIndustry.biz reports.

The BBFC's Video Appeals Committee (VAC) recently ruled in favor of Take-Two's Rockstar Games, lifting the previously imposed ban.

The BBFC has also asked for a suspension of the VAC's decision to grant the game a classification, pending the outcome of its judicial appeal.

"The BBFC is contesting the VAC judgment because in the Board's view, it is based on an approach to harm which is an incorrect interpretation of the Video Recordings Act," the organization said in a statement.

"The VAC judgment, if allowed to stand, would have fundamental implications with regard to all the Board's decisions, including those turning upon questions of unacceptable levels of violence."
