Apple in Talks with DoCoMo, Softbank for iPhone in Japan

Tokyo - Apple (NASD: AAPL) is in talks with rival Japanese mobile operators DoCoMo and Softbank on launching its iPhone in Japan, but both companies are unhappy with the cut of subscriber revenue that Apple is demanding, sources from the companies told Reuters.

Apple CEO Steve Jobs met with the president of Japanese market leader DoCoMo earlier this month in San Francisco, a company source told Reuters.

"The negotiations are not going smoothly, as Apple's conditions are extremely hard to meet," the source said. "The ball is in Apple's court right now."

The Japanese market counts nearly 100 million mobile phone users.
