Nickelodeon’s Jamie Lynn Spears Confirms Pregnancy

Authored by Scott Goldberg on December 18, 2007 - 4:04pm.

Jamie Lynn Spears, sister of Britney, has confirmed to OK! Magazine that she’s pregnant.  The 16-year-old star of Nickelodeon’s Zoey 101 is planning to keep the baby, and the network released the following statement: "We respect Jamie Lynn's decision to take responsibility in this sensitive and personal situation. We know this is a very difficult time for her and her family, and our primary concern right now is for Jamie Lynn's well being."

She’s one of young Hollywood’s biggest stars, and her show, a staple on Nickelodeon, is a favorite among teens.  Watch a recent clip here.

TMZ reports that Britney is “frantic” over the news.

What's your reaction?  Aside from the surprise, it’s once again an example of the speed at which information travels in today’s day and age, as message boards are going nuts right now.

And what should Nickelodeon do?  It’s clearly a sensitive issue, so the manner in which they handle it will be interesting to watch.  The network, after all, has an image to maintain.

Now for a different question: Britney Spears's 2007 was one of the most bizarre we've ever seen, from her head-shaving to her VMA performance, and everything in between.  But with news of Jamie Lynn's pregnancy in the waning days of December, did she manage to trump her sister?  Who would've even thought that was possible?!

It's also worth noting that one of the most talked about movies at the moment is Jason Reitman's Juno, starring Ellen Page, about a 16-year-old girl who gets pregnant, keeps the baby, and gives it up for adoption.  What's the connection to Spears?  Nothing whatsoever, aside from the fact getting pregnant at 16 seems to be en vogue at the moment.

But not everyone's following suit, and you'd be forgiven for thinking news of Jamie Lynn's pregnancy was just another Miley Cyrus case, who was also rumored to be pregnant recently, though the claim turned out to be a hoax.
