West Hollywood, Calif. - IAC's (NASD: IACI) Ticketmaster on Tuesday announced a multi-year deal with the National Football League (NFL), that will create a league-endorsed online secondary ticket exchange where fans can buy or sell NFL tickets.

Set to launch in time for the 2008 season, the NFL Ticket Exchange will be available from both Ticketmaster.com and NFL.com.

Ticketmaster already provides primary ticketing services for 31 NFL teams, and secondary ticketing or 18 teams through its TicketExchange service.

"The ticketing marketplace continues to evolve and sports fans demand more creative opportunities to experience our games," said Eric Grubman, EVP of NFL and president of NFL Ventures.

"We will now be able to meet their expectations with our safe, consistent, and guaranteed service."

Ticketmaster competes in the secondary ticket market with sites including StubHub, which is owned by eBay (NASD: EBAY).

Sounds Fishy

I'm not sure having TicketMaster being apart of the growing secondary market selling tickets above face value is really bringing any more legitimacy to this space. In the end the consumer is still paying inflated prices. It just means the fans in the end are going to need to go to yet another ticket site to see who has the best priced tickets. The price comparison tickets sites like Tickex are the best place to go for the consumer to feel like they aren't getting ripped off. If you want Patriots tickets check here.
