Washington - The Electric Sheep Company, a creator of 3D virtual world content, has laid off 22 employees, or about one-third of its staff, Virtual Worlds News reports.

The company, which now counts 54 employees, said the cuts came across its virtual worlds ad network, events team and creative staff.

"We have seen tremendous growth over the last year and this is a right-sizing of the organization," Valerie Williamson, VP of marketing and business development for Sheep, told VirtualWorldsNews.com.

"The company is very healthy and not in financial trouble."

Electric Sheep had been primarily focused on the "Second Life" virtual world, but said it will begin to diversify to other platforms as well, such as Metaplace, Multiverse and Icarus.
