The New York Times Admits Errors on Ron Paul Blog Post

Authored by Scott Goldberg on December 27, 2007 - 5:29pm.

The New York Times blog known as The Medium posted a potentially disastrous article about Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul on Monday, and today an editor recanted much of the information. The article begins, “Ron Paul, our Internet president, seems to have Nazi troubles, as in they’re saying he’s one of them.” Stormfront, which the blog calls “a ‘white nationalist’ Internet community,” donated money to Paul, according to The Medium, something the editor’s note now says is untrue. However, Stormfront’s founder, Don Black, did donate $500 to the campaign.

The Medium’s post also said that Bill White, “the Commander of the American National Socialist Workers’ Party, said Paul and his aides “regularly meet with members of the Stormfront set, American Renaissance, the Institute for Historic Review and others at the Tara Thai restaurant in Arlington, Va….” The New York Times today wrote that Jesse Benton, a Paul spokesman, said Paul never attended the dinners, and that the candidate “has never knowingly met Bill White.”

The editor’s note concludes: “The post should not have been published with these unverified assertions and without any response from Paul.”

So you repost the lies first

So you repost the lies first with the editor's note in a small section at the bottom? Why re-post the lies in the first place.

Just goes to show how

Just goes to show how "accurate" the New York Times is. It isn't about good journalism, it's about readership and making money.

Ron Paul

It is now obvious to the more dicerning of consumers of MSM that Ron Paul is being maliciously attacked. I say MSM is dead. Long live the IMedia.

.. the NYT isn't that far

.. the NYT isn't that far off from the truth... maybe they should ask who Jamie Kelso is and why is he working for the Ron Paul campaign? Remember that when David Duke ran, he denied he was with the klan and claimed he was just for 'supporting the constitution' too.

I would sue the pants out of

I would sue the pants out of that guy for slander, what a prick

ron paul

how eazy to be a slime, first print out lies about your opponent, wait let a few days go by than when the majority people already wont take notice quaitly apalagize good msm tactics but we will laugh at last on the election day

Here we go, breathless on

Here we go, breathless on the blogosphere...Proof that Ron Paul is a Racist!
Much thanks to Scott for posting the NYT retraction...here is what I found in my research:
Some guy posted this: http://www.vnnforum.com/showthread.php?t=63682
Ummm...did anybody actually look at the forum where "Commander" White posted? Even the *other racists* are calling him a liar.
On this site there is a listed disbursement for the Tara Thai restaurant. http://query.nictusa.com/pres/2007/Q3/C00432914/B_PAYEE_C00432914.html
Google shows: Tara Thai 4001 Fairfax Dr Arlington, VA 22203 (703) 908-4999
But the racists apparently meet at the *Sala* Thai restaurant.
Google shows: Sala Thai 2900 10th St N Arlington, VA 22201 (703) 465-2900
Here's a post where Bill White is corrected by Sid Secular the new national socialist movement leader for D.C. on the restaurant name where the racists meet...can't have racists going to the wrong place now can we?
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/nsmamerica/message/6809
Note, however, that this is not the place specified in the FEC filing.
So it is entirely possible that this guy is lying, or plain wrong. Anyway, this evidence is circumstantial.
And, Ron Paul disavowed any racist support on the PBS NOW interview. (part 2, 3:45 in). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VafCpMTW2pE
Regarding the other posts supporting him on the racist's forums: nobody has any control over that. Darth Vader may support him for all we know.
Regarding the newsletter, this has been debunked elsewhere: http://www.freemarketnews.com/WorldNews.asp?nid=41822
Note however, that while he didn't write or know about the newsletter, that Ron Paul did in fact take *moral responsibility* for those words, saying in essence "The buck stops here"...which is a hell of a lot more than the current administration has given us.
Hope that clears things up for everyone. Honestly, this research took like 30 minutes on Google...chalk another smear up for the NYT.
For good measure, here's the Paul campaign's statement on racism: http://www.ronpaullibrary.org/document.php?id=98

New York Times

What you mean the same New York Times that said Iraq had weapons of mass destruction? You mean that New York Times that prints hearsay regularly?

The New York Times Admits Errors on Ron Paul Blog Post

What happened? Did someone finally read the article written by Justin Riamondo on the same day --a REAL REPORTER who GOT THE FACTS?

NY TIMES and Ron Paul

Is there any wonder why the NY Times has become irrelevant to informed readers. It's hard to keep a secret anymore with reliable internet news and official campaign websites.

Deformation Of Character Lawsuit

I would like to see a Deformation Of Character Lawsuit against these fools. Lame Excuse For Journalism !!! I Vote For Virtue; I Vote For Ron Paul !!!

The New York Times Admits Errors on Ron Paul Blog Post

Amazing. What has happened to journalism? Oh, that's right... it's all 'infotainment' now. That still doesn't dismiss the fact that writers don't even bother to fact-check or perform meaningful research anymore. That goes from online bloggers to White House correspondents who report press releases as if they were their own news stories. Of course, that assumes that the writer even WANTS to do a good job. Many times, propagandistic partisan attacks masquerade as journalism. In that case, there's no reason to fact-check, because you already know the facts and are deliberately ignoring them and distorting them to fit the preconceived piece of Stalinesque thinkprop that you originally intended to write. Josef Goebbels would be so proud. His children have learned so well! xtrabiggg ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++=
