Most Popular YouTube Clips 2007: ‘Obama Girl’ & Chris Crocker

Authored by Scott Goldberg on December 28, 2007 - 8:44am.

Until another internet video site challenges YouTube’s throne, the Google-owned network continues to be a barometer for all things viral on the web. Today Reuters points out that Barely Political’s “Obama Girl” and Chris Crocker’s tearful tirade against Britney Spears haters are the Most Popular YouTube clips of 2007.

But it was not merely the number of times the clips were viewed that determined the title “Most Popular.” YouTube accounted for the amount that clips were shared, discussed, and rated as well.

Barely Political was acquired by Next New Networks in October for an undisclosed amount. The “Obama Girl” video, featuring an attractive young girl professing her love for 2008 presidential candidate Barack Obama, has been viewed over 4 million times.

Chris Crocker’s rant against the media following Britney Spears’s disastrous performance at the MTV Video Music Awards in September has been viewed over 14 million times. He signed a reality TV development deal with 44 Blue Productions just over a week after his video hit the web.
