New York - Media company Landmark Communications is putting its Weather Channel TV network and website up for sale, and could draw more than $5 billion at auction, The New York Times reported, citing people briefed on the auction. Suitors reportedly include NBC, News Corp. and Comcast.

Launched in 1995, Weather.com is now one of the top 20 websites by traffic in the country, attracting 32 million unique users in November, according to Nielsen/NetRatings.

The site provides weather information to partners including MySpace, Yahoo and AOL.

The sale of the Weather Channel is part of a larger breakup of Landmark, which also owns newspapers and other media.

JPMorgan Chase will advise Landmark on the sale of the Weather Channel, The Times reported.
