Microsoft to Take Library of Congress Interactive

Washington - The Library of Congress said that it has signed a deal with software giant Microsoft (NASD: MSFT) that will "electronically expose" its vast historical collections to the public through the use of technology.

The new system will include interactive kiosks in the library's Jefferson Building, as well as a significantly enhanced website at myloc.gov.

The institution said that new interactive galleries will feature virtual hands-on interaction with items such as the rough draft of the Declaration of Independence, the Gutenberg Bible, the 1507 Waldseemuller world map that first used the word "America," and original volumes from Thomas Jefferson's library.

The library said that more exhibits and enhancements, including personalized websites, are scheduled to debut this spring.
