DVR Maker Digeo Cuts Half of Staff; CEO Fidler Steps Down

Kirkland, Wash. - Digeo, a maker of digital video recorder devices and services under the Moxi brand name, announced on Tuesday that it will lay off nearly half of its staff, or 80 employees, and cancelled plans to release two new product lines. Kirkland, Wash.-based Digeo, which is majority-owned by Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen, also announced that CEO Mike Fidler has stepped down, and been replaced by president and COO Greg Gudorf.

Digeo will no longer release its planned Moxi Multi-Room DMR and Moxi Home Cinema Edition DMR set-tops, and will instead focus development efforts on the next-generation version of its standard Moxi box, and an HD digital video recorder for cable systems.

"As we assessed our situation, it became clear that the best action for Digeo was to focus our work on the next-generation product for the retail market," Gudorf said in a statement.

"Previously, we were spreading our energies across too many platforms. This focused strategy promises to bring a set of advanced and compelling DMR features to consumers, at the right cost and at the right time."
