WordPress Developer Automattic Gets $29.5 Million

New York - Automattic, the developer of the WordPress blog publishing software, has raised $29.5 million in new financing from Polaris Venture Partners, True Ventures, Radar Partners and The New York Times Company (NYSE: NYT), The Times reported.

Automattic powers some 2.2 million blogs, including over 50 operated by The New York Times, and the Times Company's About.com guide site.

The company, which is already profitable, will use the funds for product development.
