Santa Monica, Calif. - The Independent Comedy Network (ICN), an online comedy video start-up founded by members of comedy theaters including iO, Westside Eclectic, The PIT and The Magnet, on Tuesday announced its launch.

The company has raised initial funding from founder Marc Campbell, a former JP Morgan private equity banker and former Upright Citizens Brigade member; Titan Worldwide chairman Bill Apfelbaum; HBO's Scott Carlin; former Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution head Dick Robertson; and attorney Sandy Fox.

ICN launches with five original scripted series -- "2/8 Life," "Inappropriate Workplace," "Annals," "Plea Bargain Advertising" and "Warthog" -- and plans a slate of 40 series for 2008.

Performers include former "Daily Show" correspondent Bob Wiltfong; Eddie Pepitone ("Old School"); and Ron Lynch ("Tim and Eric Awesome Show").

The company will distribute its shows both on its own site, and via 15 partners including YouTube, MySpaceTV, iTunes, Joost and Vuze.

Gosh, now if only they were funny...

This reminds a lot of us in Hollywood of the internet gold rush in the late 90's when every idiot with a skateboard and a little HTML know how got picked up and made into millionaires... Do we not learn from the past? How about screening good shows online instead of buying ALL SHOWS... sigh..
