Survey: 90% of Casual Gamers OK with Video Ads in Free Games

Amsterdam - Nearly 90% of respondents in a recent survey of casual gamers on RealNetworks' (NASD: RNWK) RealGames service said they will watch in-game streaming video ads in return for free game play.

Additionally, 31% said the actually like watching the video ads for various reasons, including the short break from gameplay they provide, and the ads' relevance to their needs.

More than half (55%) said they would watch any ad, regardless of topic, while 34% would prefer to watch ads relevant to their needs; 34% also said that they take action and click on in-game ads to learn more about the advertised product or service.

Of the survey's 1,500 participants, 81% were female, and 65% fell in the 35-64 age range.

Market research firm Yankee Group recently forecasted the global in-game advertising market will grow from $77.7 million in 2006 to $971.3 million by 2011.
