Report: No Viacom Offer for Game Publisher Take-Two

New York - Viacom is not in talks to acquire "Grand Theft Auto" game publisher Take-Two Interactive, Reuters reported, citing a source familiar with the matter, despite various online reports that Viacom was going to make an offer of $1.5 billion for the company.

Viacom declined to comment for the Reuters story, while a Take-Two representative said the company does not comment on rumors.

The media conglomerate, which owns Paramount Pictures and MTV Networks, said last year it plans to invest $500 million in video games, and acquired "Rock Band" developer Harmonix in 2006.

Viacom executive chairman Sumner Redstone also holds a majority stake in publisher Midway Games.
