Reston, Va. - U.S. Internet users watched more than 10 billion videos online during the month of December 2007, representing the heaviest traffic to sites like YouTube (NASD: GOOG) since market research firm comScore began tracking Web video, the firm said this week. "With the writer's strike keeping new TV episodes from reaching the airwaves, viewers have been seeking alternatives for fresh content. It appears that online video is stepping in to help fill that void," said Erin Hunter, comScore EVP of media and entertainment.

In total, nearly 141 million Americans viewed online video in December.

Google Sites, including YouTube and Google Video, was again the top U.S. video property in December with 3.3 billion video views, or 32.6% overall, while News Corp.'s (NYSE: NWS) Fox Interactive Media (MySpace) was second with 358 million (3.5%).

Rounding out the top five were Yahoo (NASD: YHOO) (340 million views; 3.4%), Viacom Digital (NYSE: VIA) (238 million views; 2.3%) and Microsoft (NASD: MSFT) (180 million views; 1.8%).
