Salinas, Calif. - Online video views delivered through professionally-branded sites from major media companies rose 50.3% in 2007, to 33.5 billion, according to a new report from AccuStream iMedia Research.

Entertainment represented 26.8% of cumulative views in this category in 2007, followed by news and information (21.4%), music (20.8%) and TV shows, including full episode streaming (13.8%).

With the surge in broadcast network programs being posted online, TV views were up 148.9% in 2007.

A decline in music as a category for pro sites and portals of 10.9% in 2007 was attributed to user-generated videos on sites like YouTube, where music was the most popular category in 2007, accounting for 28% of views.

A more competitive and expanding market across all professionally produced sites and categories in 2007 resulted in fewer views per unique user, per site, per month -- registering 6.14, compared to 9.7 in 2006.
