San Francisco - DoubleTwist, a start-up launched by notorious Norwegian hacker Jon Lech Johansen (aka DVD Jon) and partner Monique Farantzos, on Monday announced the launch of its platform for media-sharing and the closing of a first round of venture capital financing, from Index Ventures and Northzone Ventures.

Johansen gained notoriety for his work hacking the DVD encryption code at age 15, as well as the FairPlay digital rights management (DRM) technology that limits usage of songs purchased from Apple's (NASD: AAPL) iTunes Store.

DoubleTwist's technology includes a desktop application that purports to be able to strip the DRM from most any media file, so that it can be synched with and easily transferred to various portable media players, or shared with other users.

The company is also offering a social network application called Twist me!, that allows users to share media directly from their profile pages.
