WowoWow Founders Raise $1M for Women Over 40 Social Net

New York - A group of five noted women in media -- Liz Smith, Lesley Stahl, Peggy Noonan, Mary Wells and Joni Evans -- have each contributed $200,000 to pool $1 million for the launch of WowoWow, a new destination site and social network aimed at women 40 and older, The New York Times reported.

The site will feature content similar in scope to that of iVillage, the NBC-owned women's media site, such as hororscopes, relationship and marriage talk, and political commentary.

In addition to the site's founders, WowoWow (a play on "Women on the Web") has signed up contributors including Candace Bergen, Whoopi Goldberg, Lily Tomlin, Marlo Thomas and Sheila Nevins.
