London - The new album from U.K. rock band the Charlatans has been downloaded for free more than 60,000 times since it was made available through the website of radio station XFM on March 3.

"I feel we are totally vindicated with the philosophy that if you go free and make a great record, you can exceed your dreams. No longer does music have to work in the traditional major label dominated way," said Charlatans manager Alan McGee.

The album will also be released on physical formats in May.
