San Francisco - Gizmoz, a provider of customized, user-generated avatars for use with social media services, announced on Monday that it has raised $6.5 million in its second round of financing, led by DoCoMo Capital.

NGI Capital, and previous investors Benchmark Capital and Columbia Capital also participated.

Founded in 2003, San Francisco-based Gizmoz offers an online service that lets users create, customize, animate and share photorealistic 3D talking characters and videos, which can then be used to communicate on various social media services.

The company has secured partnerships that allow its Gizmoz to feature on services including Facebook, and AOL's AIM service.

Gizmoz will use the funds for an expansion into Asia, beginning with Japan.
