Baltimore - Blogdigger, a search engine for blogs and syndicated content, said that it has been acquired by New York-based Odeo, which is rebuilding its podcast network to include both audio and video.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Founded in 2003, Blogdigger uses syndication technologies, such as RSS and Atom, to index blog content and make it available for search.

The company also makes search results available in RSS or Atom, so users can subscribe to keyword searches and automatically be notified of new content pertaining to their interests.

Blogdigger said that it has worked for the past few months to incorporate its aggregation and search technology into Odeo's new beta site.

Greg Gershman, Blogdigger's founder and CEO, will become Odeo's vice president of search and engineering. "

While Odeo started off as a West Coast company, it now has a really strong East Coast presence, the DC area in particular," said Gershman in his blog.

"I'm hoping that we can play a part in what I think is going to be a big year for the DC area in terms of growth in social media and consumer web ventures."

He said that Blogdigger will continue to operate its service as normal.
