San Diego - KidZui, a kid-friendly, filtered Web browser and online service that includes some 500,000 websites, on Wednesday announced its launch with $8 million in financing from Maveron, Emergence Capital Partners and First Round Capital.

San Diego-based KidZui says its service was designed for kids ages 3-12, and was reviewed by a team of over 200 teachers and parents to ensure that kids see age-appropriate websites, pictures and videos in terms of developmental level and reading ability.

Parents can change the categories of content available, and add or remove sites accessible to their kids; they also receive a weekly report of their kids' recent searches and interests.

KidZui will charge $9.95 per month or $99.95 per year for its service, after an introductory offer of $4.95/$49.95.

"KidZui is not the adult Internet filtered for kids. Instead, we've built an entire Internet just for kids from the ground up, along with a brand-new, kid-friendly interface that completely revolutionizes and expands a kid's online experience," said Cliff Boro, chairman and CEO of KidZui.
