Redwood City, Calif. - Video game developer and publisher Electronic Arts (NASD: ERTS) announced on Monday that it has partnered with Liberty Media's (NASD: LINTA) Starz Media unit to develop an animated movie prequel to its sci-fi game "Dead Space."

The story focuses on what happens after a mining spaceship accidentally awakens a long-dormant alien presence.

Starz Media, a production and distribution company whose brands include Film Roman, Anchor Bay Entertainment and Manga Entertainment, said it is currently in discussions with broadcasters worldwide that have already expressed interest in airing "Dead Space," which is scheduled to be released via broadcast TV and then on DVD.
