Beijing - Jeboo, a company that provides Chinese Internet cafes with subscription movie download services, has filed a "reputation infringement" suit against the Motion Picture Association (MPA), according to JLM Pacific Epoch, which cited a report on ChinaNews.com.cn.

Five MPA studios filed suit against Jeboo in November, alleging Jeboo was offering some their films on its service without permission; other films offered had been properly licensed by Jeboo.

The MPA announced earlier this month that Jeboo had settled the litigation, admitting to copyright infringement and agreeing to pay a "significant" amount of damages.

In its lawsuit, filed March 21 in the Second Beijing Intermediate People's Court, Jeboo claims that it has not committed copyright infringement.

The company is seeking $142,000 in damages and a public apology from the MPA.
