Mountain View, Calif. - Google (NASD: GOOG) announced on Tuesday that Yahoo (NASD: YHOO) has joined its OpenSocial network, which will allow developers to create applications that work across many different social media sites. Google also announced that it has formed a new non-profit foundation, with Yahoo and News Corp.'s (NYSE: NWS) MySpace, which will work to advance the initiative while "ensuring all stakeholders share influence over its future direction."

The OpenSocial Foundation "will provide transparency and operational guidelines around technology, documentation, intellectual property, and other issues related to the evolution of the OpenSocial platform," the companies said.

With the addition of Yahoo, the last major player in the social networking space yet to sign on to OpenSocial remains Facebook.
