San Francisco - On the heels of receiving a $3 million donation from the Sloan Foundation, the Wikimedia Foundation, which operates the Wikipedia online encyclopedia, announced on Thursday that it has received another $500,000 donation from philanthropists Vinod and Neeru Khosla.

The donations come after the Wikimedia Foundation relocated its headquarters to San Francisco.

The organization plans to hire additional staff, as well as launch a number of outreach projects designed to encourage contributions to the Wikipedia from targeted groups, and also increase distribution of material from Wikipedia on other formats, such as DVDs and books.
