London - Scandinavian telco TDC on Monday announced the launch of a free, unlimited music download service, with all costs to the recording industry to be picked up by the telco.

Powered by 24-7 Entertainment, the TDC Play service is available to all mobile, online and cable subscribers as part of their ordinary subscriptions.

It offers a catalog of about 1 million tracks from over 30 major and independent labels, including Warner Music (NYSE: WMG), Sony BMG (NYSE: SNE) and EMI.

All songs feature digital rights management -- Windows Media DRM for PC, OMA1 for mobile -- and will expire in 30 days if a user's subscription lapses.

However, tracks may also be purchased for the equivalent of about $1.58 per track.

"24-7 Entertainment is very proud to have collaborated in the development of TDC Play, a revolutionary service which we believe will increase acceptance of digital music to the mass market and will help make illegal peer-to-peer file sharing obsolete." said Frank Taubert, CEO 24-7 Entertainment.
