Los Angeles
- Universal Music Group announced on Tuesday that it has made a strategic
investment in digital music distributor INgrooves, and will partner with the company
to distribute music. San
Francisco-based INgrooves recently served as the exclusive digital distributor
for Dolly Parton's "Backwoods Barbie" album, and also provides
distribution and marketing services for partners including ESL Music, VP
Records and Stones Throw Records.
Financial details of the investment were not disclosed.
INgrooves will work directly with Universal
Music Group Distribution and Fontana,
the company's independent distribution subsidiary.
"After much research,
we identified INgrooves as the most successful and comprehensive second
generation digital distribution company in the market," said Jim Urie,
president and CEO of Universal Music Group Distribution.
"Through this
venture, we will provide our partners with access to the only flexible digital
distribution system that allows for innovative structures to maximize their
freedom, the connection of the artists' music to fans, and sales."
