Consumer Electronics Association Names Hall of Fame Inductees

Arlington, Va. - The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) on Wednesday unveiled the 12 new inductees who will be enshrined in its CE Hall of Fame.

The honorees include Ken Kutaragi, the former chairman and CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment; Fritz Sennheiser, a pioneer in microphone and headphone technology; Martin Cooper and Donald Linder, who led the Motorola engineering team that developed the first mobile phone; Joe Clayton, the former CEO of RCA/Thomson and CEO of Sirius Satellite Radio; Eddy Hartenstein, the former president and later chairman and CEO of DirecTV; Warren Lieberfarb, the former president of Warner Home Video; the late Jewel and David Abt, founders of Chicago's Abt Electronics; Richard Sharp, the former chairman, president and CEO of Circuit City; the late Hans Fantel, a leading consumer electronics journalist for The New York Times; and the late Dean Dunlavey, a trial lawyer who represented Sony and successfully argued the Betamax case before the Supreme Court in 1983.

Founded in 2000, the CE Hall of Fame includes inventors, executives, engineers, retailers and journalists who are chosen by a panel of industry judges each year.

Judging for 2008 took place in New York City on Feb. 20, with induction ceremonies scheduled for Oct. 21 in Las Vegas.
