Minneapolis, Minn. - Comcast (NASD: CMCSA), the nation's largest cable TV provider, which also counts 13.2 million broadband customers, on Thursday launched a new high-speed Internet service that offers up to 50 Mbps downloads and 5 Mbps uploads -- fast enough to download an HD movie in about ten minutes.

The new offering, which launched in the Twin Cities region of Minnesota today, will cost $149.95 per month.

Comcast also increased upload speeds at no additional cost for existing broadband subscribers in the region as well, more than tripling the upload speeds for subscribers to its basic tier.

The company added that it expects to offer speeds of up to 100 Mbps over the next two years, and 160 Mbps or more in the future.
