New York - Gawker Media, the blog network that includes Gawker, Defamer, Gizmodo, Wonkette and Jezebel, announced on Monday that is selling its Idolator, Gridskipper and Wonkette sites. "To be blunt: they each had their editorial successes; but someone else will have better luck selling the advertising than we did," Gawker Media founder and publisher Nick Denton said in a post on Gawker.com.

The company's Idolator music blog and community site was acquired by Buzznet, the music-focused social media firm that also recently acquired indie music blog Stereogum.

Wonkette, the politics blog founded by Ana Marie Cox, is being spun off to managing editor Ken Layne, and will become part of the Blogads political site network, which also includes Daily Kos.

The Gridskipper urban travel site will become part of Lockhart Steele's Curbed network.

Financial terms of the deals were not disclosed.

"The dozen sites that remain represent some 97% or our 228m pageviews per month, and an even higher proportion of our growth and advertising revenue," Denton added.
