20th Century Fox, Paramount Add New Release Titles to iTunes

Los Angeles - News Corp.'s (NYSE: NWS) 20th Century Fox and Viacom's (NYSE: VIA) Paramount Pictures have joined Disney in the practice of offering films for purchase and download from Apple's (NASD: AAPL) iTunes Store on the same day they are released on DVD, with Fox adding "Juno" to the retailer's offering on Tuesday, Variety reported.

Paramount recently offered "Jackass 2.5" on iTunes a week before its DVD release.

A representative from Fox told Variety said that such releases in the future would be on a title-by-title basis; Paramount also said its releases in the new release DVD window were experimental.

Earlier this year, all of the major studios agreed to offer films via iTunes in the traditional video-on-demand window.

But studios have been slower to do day-and-date with DVD, in part due to relationships with DVD sellers like Wal-Mart.
