PluggedIn Lands $2 Million, Launches HD Music Video Site

Santa Monica, Calif. - PluggedIn on Wednesday announced the beta launch of its broadcast and HD-quality music video streaming site, which features over 10,000 videos from both major and independent label artists.

PaidContent reported that the company launched with around $2 million in venture funding, from backers including actor Will Smith's Overbrook Entertainment.

Santa Monica, Calif.-based PluggedIn was founded by a team that includes Xdrive founder Brett O'Brien, and Kevin Welk, CEO of Vanguard and Sugar Hill Records.

At launch, the site counts more than 1 million artist profiles, and offers full-screen video playback in broadcast or HD-quality at a variety of bitrates.

PluggedIn also features a Marketplace where users can purchase digital downloads, CDs merchandise and concert tickets.
