Santa Monica, Calif. - Eqal, the production company that created the Internet show "Lonelygirl15," has raised $5 million in its first round of financing, led by Spark Capital.

Other investors included Ron Conway, Marc Andreessen, former Google executive Georges Harik and Conrad Riggs, who helped produce "Survivor" and "The Apprentice."

Since the original Lonelygirl15 series launched in mid-2006, the company (formerly called LG15 Studios) has hatched a U.K. spin-off, "KateModern," which along with the original series will be hosted at LG15.com.

The site will also be home to a number of upcoming series, as well as a range of social networking features.
