Los Angeles - News Corp.'s (NYSE: NWS) MySpace on Thursday announced the public launch of its Application Gallery, which features more than 1,000 approved applications for the service developed using the Developer Platform the company launched in February. MySpace rival Facebook has been offering a developers' platform since last May, while Google announced its OpenSocial social media development platform in November.

MySpace said its Application Gallery -- which offers add-ons for music, video, politics and causes, quizzes and polls, and more -- has already served 2.1 million installs during beta testing.

"The MySpace Application Gallery enables the most meaningful and diverse online experience available on the Internet to-date," MySpace CEO and co-founder Chris DeWolfe.

"MySpace was the original open platform, and the MySpace Application Gallery is the evolution of that vision, taking MySpace users around the world to the next level and empowering them to take control of their online presence in new and exciting ways."
