Music Discovery Site MOG Gets $2.8M; Major Labels Invest

Berkeley, Calif. - MOG, a music discovery service with a desktop music player, has raised $2.8 million in new financing, from Universal Music Investments, Sony BMG Music Investments and The Angels Forum 74, VentureBeat reported.

Berkeley, Calif.-based MOG was founded in June 2005 by CEO David Hyman, who previously held executive positions at Gracenote, MTV and Addicted to Noise.

The site offers user-generated music reviews, news and music videos, and claims nearly 1 million monthly unique users.

MOG also touts artist pages that have been created by Ben Gibbard (Death Cab for Cutie), Questlove (The Roots), Greg Saunier (Deerhoof), Branford Marsalis and others.
The company has previously raised $3.2 million over two angel financing rounds.
