Radiohead's Thom Yorke: Free Album Offer Was a "One-Off"

Los Angeles - Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke has called the band's move to let consumers decide how much, if anything, to pay for its new album "In Rainbows" a "one-off," which likely won't be repeated again, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

"I think it was a one-off response to a particular situation," Yorke told THR.

"It was one of those things where we were in the position of everyone asking us what we were going to do. I don't think it would have the same significance now anyway, if we chose to give something away again. It was a moment in time."

Radiohead's much-hyped experiment with pricing on digital distribution has since inspired similarly styled offerings from Saul Williams, Nine Inch Nails and the Charlatans.

On a smaller scale, major label EMI said today that the new Coldplay single it began offering as a free download for a week as of yesterday has already been downloaded more than 600,000 times, Billboard reports.
