San Francisco - Kongregate, a publisher of free social online games, has received a $3 million investment from Amazon.com (NASD: AMZN) founder Jeff Bezos' Bezos Expeditions, SiliconValley.com reported.

Founded in June 2006, San Francisco-based Kongregate offers more than 4,000 free online games aggregated from over 1,600 independent developers.

Kongregate co-founder and CEO Jeff Greer told SiliconValley.com the company will use the funds to develop display advertising for the site, and added that it is creating a revenue-sharing plan to provide compensation to developers of the site's most popular titles.
