Web Messaging Firm Meebo Raises $25 Million

Mountain View, Calif. - Confirming earlier reports, Web-based messaging and chat service Meebo announced on Thursday that it has raised $25 million in new financing, led by JAFCO Ventures.

Time Warner Investments, KTB Ventures, and previous backers Sequoia Capital and Draper Fisher Jurvetson also participated.

Founded in 2005, Mountain View, Calif.-based Meebo now claims 30 million users for its service; the company says the average user at Meebo.com spends over 2 hours on the site per day.

In addition to Web-based messaging that connects with AIM, Yahoo Messenger, MSN Messenger and Google Talk, the company operates Meebo Rooms embedded on sites for entertainment brands including CBS, Showtime and MTV Networks.

Other Meebo Rooms users include Jay-Z, Madonna, Radiohead and R.E.M.

The company will use the funds to fuel growth and revenue, and said it will significantly expand its marketing programs and partnerships this year.
