Sezmi to Launch Hybrid TV Delivery Service

Belmont, Calif. - Sezmi, the Belmont-based developer of a hybrid television platform that the company calls an alterative to satellite and cable, said that it will begin testing its service in unspecified pilot markets.

The service combines digital over-the-air local broadcasts, broadband video and channels beamed to a set-top by local TV stations over unused portions of the broadcast spectrum.

The company -- formerly known as Building B -- said that it plans to officially launch with broadband service providers and national retailers later this year. The company, led by CEO Buno Pati and Chairman and President Phil Wiser -- the former CTO at Sony and founder of Liquid Audio -- raised $17.5 million in August 2007 from Morgenthaler Ventures, OmniCapital, Index Ventures and private investors.

Area tester

What will the cost be of the unit on an individule basis, and, what would I, as a consumer, need to do to be a tester for the Sezmi Unit in my area. It sounds to good to be true, thus far. I'm normally somewhat sceptical of new unseen hybrids, although am optimistic about this/your product. Respectfully, Consumer, Bill
