London - In a sign that the
companies may be resolving their dispute over TV show pricing at Apple's (NASD: AAPL) iTunes
Store that led NBC (NYSE: GE) to remove its programs late last year, five NBC shows are
now available for purchase from the U.K. version of the iTunes Store, Macworld.com
reported. The series -- "Heroes," "House," "The
Incredible Hulk," "Eureka" and "Hercules: The Legendary
Journeys" -- are all produced by Universal Media Studios, and notably
feature variable pricing -- one of the sticking points in failed negotiations
in the U.S.
Current episodes of the series cost about $3.68 each, while older
episodes retail for about $2.32 each.
"We're pleased that NBC Universal
has joined the iTunes Movie Store and that their TV shows are available on the
iTunes Store in the UK," Adam Howorth, Apple's head of music PR for Europe,
told Macworld.com.
In another sign that Apple is caving on Hollywood's demands, Time Warner's (NYSE: TWX) HBO
negotiated a deal this week that breaks the current $1.99 per episode standard
pricing at the iTunes Store, as episodes of "The Sopranos" and
several other programs will sell for $2.99 each.
