Los Angeles
- Social music service imeem has surpassed Yahoo (NASD: YHOO) to become the top streaming
music service, claiming 10.3 million unique visitors in March, Wired.com
reported, citing data from analytics firm Compete.
Traffic to imeem, which
recently signed deals allowing it to stream songs from all four major labels,
was up 58% over a year ago, while Yahoo's was down 14%, to 9.66 million unique
visitors.
The shrinking audience for Yahoo's streaming music service can also
be explained when seen in light of the launches of unique new services in the
past year, such as Jango, Deezer, Songza and Muxtape, which all made the top
20.
Rounding out the top 10 of Compete's list, beneath imeem and Yahoo, were AOL; MySpace;
Project Playlist; MSN; blogs aggregated by The Hype Machine; Pandora; iLike; and
Last.fm.
