Qtrax Signs Warner/Chappell to Free, Legal File-Sharing Service

San Jose, Calif. - Qtrax, the developer of a free, ad-supported music file-sharing service, has secured a deal with the last of the four major music publishers, Warner Music Group's (NYSE: WMG) Warner/Chappell, to license its repertoire for inclusion on the Qtrax service, Wired.com reports.

Despite the deals with music publishers, Qtrax is still lacking key licensing agreements with record labels, having thus far only signed up Universal Music Group, and smaller independents like TVT Records and Beggars Group.

The company created some controversy when it announced that it had landed deals with all of the major labels in January, but had to recant when the labels denied that any deals had yet been signed.
