Los Angeles
- A group at MIT called Free Culture has created a project called YouTomb,
which aims to amass a listing of all videos removed from YouTube (NASD: GOOG) due to
allegations of copyright infringement or other reasons, the Google Operating
System blog reported. "Any information available in the metadata is
retained, including who issued the complaint and how long the video was up
before takedown. The goal of the project is to identify how YouTube recognizes
potential copyright violations as well as to aggregate mistakes made by the
algorithm," reads a note on the site. YouTomb is currently monitoring
157,340 videos, and has identified 4,389 videos taken down for alleged
copyright violations, and 13,330 taken down for other reasons.
