Networks Target Blog TV Clip Service Redlasso

New York - Redlasso, a Web service that lets bloggers search national and local TV and radio broadcasts and create clips for posting to their websites, has received a cease and desist notice from broadcasters NBC (NYSE: GE), CBS (NYSE: CBS) and Fox (NYSE: NWS), who allege the site is violating their copyrights, Reuters reported.

They have demanded that Redlasso cease reproducing, distributing or displaying their broadcasts, and given the company until May 29 to respond.

"Redlasso's unauthorized use in connection with its own services of the content owners' valuable and famous trademarks, along with various statements made on Redlasso's web site and at various online industry gatherings, among other places, falsely convey an affiliation between Redlasso and the content owners, when there is none," reads a letter from the networks' lawyers.

"We believe that curtailing distribution through the Redlasso platform only exacerbates a flawed distribution model," Redlasso said in a statement.

"We hope to develop mutually beneficial partnerships with the world's major media companies, including many of those we've heard from today."
