Report: Apple 3G iPhone Coming on June 9

Authored by Mark Hefflinger on May 21, 2008 - 9:01am.

Los Angeles - According to Gizmodo, which cites "someone very, very close to the 3G iPhone launch," Apple (NASD: AAPL) is to both announce and simultaneously launch its next-generation 3G iPhone worldwide on June 9. Apple CEO Steve Jobs is slated to give the keynote address at Apple's WorldWide Developer Conference in San Francisco that day.

Another source told Gizmodo that the new 3G model will no longer tie carriers and retailers to a fixed price point, at least in some countries.

Spain-based carrier Telefonica is expected to launch the iPhone in that country on June 18, during the grand opening of its new flagship store in Madrid.

Committed

I think Apple has been committed, by rumors everywhere, to announce the 3G iPhone June 9th whether they want to or not. If, for some reason, they don't, there are going to be a lot of unhappy people.
