Santa Monica, Calif. - Video game publisher Activision (NASD: ATVI) on Thursday announced details for "Guitar Hero World Tour," the next installment of its blockbuster franchise, confirming reports that the game will add drum kit and microphone peripherals to the familiar guitar controllers present in earlier editions.

The game will also feature software called Music Studio that will let players compose, record, edit and share their own songs on a service called GHTunes, as well as features like a new eight-player "Battle of the Bands" mode.

Guitar Hero World Tour is currently in development for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 (Neversoft Entertainment), Wii (Vicarious Visions) and PlayStation 2 (Budcat) for release in the fall.
