Cambridge, Mass. - Brightcove, the provider of an Internet TV distribution platform, announced on Thursday the launch of a new Japanese subsidiary, which has received $4.9 million in backing from its parent company along with Dentsu, J-Stream, Transcosmos and Cyber Communications.

Tokyo-based Brightcove KK will operate a localized version of Brightcove's on-demand Internet TV platform, for which ad agency Dentsu, content delivery network J-Stream and interactive ad firm CCI will act as sales agents.

"Brightcove enters the Japanese market at a time when household broadband penetration has surpassed 50 percent, presenting enormous opportunities for media companies and advertisers to build online businesses and engage audiences," said Brightcove chairman and CEO Jeremy Allaire.

"Brightcove KK will give media companies and marketers in Japan a unique solution for implementing their online video strategies and unlocking the potential in the market."
