New York
- Several bidders appear to be in contention to buy the Weather Channel cable
network form owner Landmark Communications, including Time Warner (NYSE: TWX) and a
partnership between private equity firm Blackstone Group and NBC Universal (NYSE: GE),
Reuters reported on Friday.
Bids for the network, which were due on Friday,
were expected to be around $3-$4 billion.
CBS (NYSE: CBS), once considered a top contender
for the network, is reportedly now considered an underdog, Reuters said.
The
Weather Channel's web site attracts about 35 million unique visitors a month.
