Los Angeles - Uber.com, a social media publishing platform headed by former Friendster CEO Scott Sassa, has received a new investment from Discovery Communications, the Los Angeles Times reports, as part of a $7.6 million round that also included participation from Universal Music Group and Sterling Stamos Co-Investors Fund, according to a regulatory filing.
Created in 2006, Los Angeles-based Uber.com aggregates a variety of websites in verticals such as photography, music and style, which collectively attract about 500,000 users a month, according to Nielsen Online.
Discovery told the Times that it will use Uber.com to power online forums for its TLC cable shows "Miami Ink" and "LA Ink."
